Education is ILLUMINATING
I offer classes for clients as well as professionals. The classes I offer for clients and others interested in their health expand on the knowledge that can only be presented in modified form during sessions. I attempt to convey what a true work of art we are and how our body participates in our health. The more we can understand and relate to our bodies, the more whole we can become.
MONTHLY BODY PARTS AWARENESS WORKSHOP
3RD YEAR!
Held on the Fourth Friday from September - May*
Begining on September 28th, 2013
there are two offerings of this class: 10-12 AM and 7-9 PM.
This class began as a way to expand on the information that I offer to clients during sessions, exploring the many ways to address the tensions in our lives. Classes over the past year have focused on different body parts, exploring them with an intimate and awe-inspiring awareness. After spending the first hour on the anatomy and physiology, using tactile 3-D models (not at all like you got in school!) to increase our relationship to and awareness of the intelligence of your bodies, the second hour is dedicated to experiencing and grounding this intelligence with an insightful meditation that gave practical connection to help and understand our own personal healing process.
These body parts classes are designed to teach you about your body so you can appreciate its physiology and become better able to connect with and to understand any issues you may personally be having.
This years Monthly Body Parts classes will focus on body systems such as the cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, muscular, reproductive, urinary, digestive, nervous, and respiratory systems. The first class focused on rhythms of the body, and laid a foundation to study how our bodies are tuned into nature's rhythms and how they support and drive our various systems. We will study the systems as they develop embyrologically, so first on the list is the CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM, which will include blood, blood vessels (arteries, capillaries, veins) and the heart.
Limited to 9 persons per class. $15 Wear loose comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blanket to lie on the floor, pillow or bolster for under the knees if you have lower back issues. Call or email to reserve your space.
*THE CLASS IN APRIL WILL BE POSTONED TO THE FIRST WEEKEND IN MAY (MAY 2) DUE TO MY PARTICIPATION IN A CLASS.
This 1 day workshop is designed to give you foundational knowledge about how your body works and teaches you how to facilitate this by learning an abdominal self care technique that gives your body the power to do what it knows how best to do: be healthy and whole. each you how to do your own abdominal self care. Classes are scheduled throughout the year and if you are interested, please call or email to give me your name so I can form a new class when there is enough interest.
I recommend this to anyone who wants to take more responsibility for their health, and especially for my clients to enrich their personal experience of individual sessions. Read below comments:
"I think it was very beneficial because the information gave me enough background to understand the benefits of Arvigo massage. This gives me additional motivation to perform the massage regularly.
Discussion with other class members provided useful information, and the energy of the group provided an uplift.
I think the knowledge gave me more precise information on how to do the self-massage correctly, plus motivation to do it regularly.
I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to better understand the functioning of internal organs, and how massage can benefit this functioning. The traditional focus of massage is on muscle pain, such as back pain, knee pain, etc. In Tai Chi, they discuss the area called the "Don Tien" as the locus of energy flow in the body. I think Arvigo massage can help open the flow of Chi in the body, and go beyond the Western focus on providing relaxation and relieving pain." R.N., New Orleans, LA January, 2011
ARVIGO TECHNIQUES of Maya Abdominal Massage Therapy
This 2 1/2 day SELF CARE CLASS is more extensive in scope. It is open to people of all walks of life, and also offers CEU's to massage therapists, midwives, and acupuncturists. It is also the prerequisite to taking more intensive classes from the Arvigo Institute. The next class in Abita Springs is tentatively scheduled for February 21-23, 2014. Read the comments from the most recent class:
Wow, blown away at the power of the belly and the importance of paying attention to it. I love the roots of this work and want to continue on as soon as I can."
"It was mostly new information with infinite connections to health."
"The self-care seems to be life changing."
"Informative. Needed. Fun."
WOMAN: Her Cycle and Connection to
In modern times, a woman menstruates an average of 37 years: that's about 480 cycles, or 2,500 days! And their partners, co-workers, neighbors and children experience it right along with them. It is SOMETHING WE ALLSHARE, yet don't share...to our detriment. Why do we leave unexplored this powerful rhythm within? A serious boater or beach comber would not think of being in or near the water without a knowledge of the tides.
This class is dedicated to connecting to the rhythms of this very important life event. All women are welcomed, including those who no longer bleed due to surgical reasons or menopause. This class is designed to look at this amazing bodily process in a new light, so that we can understand, connect, and empower ourselves and future generations. This class was inspired by the HBO show "Girls" to not let another generation of females go out in the world without exploring this very sacred aspect of our lives.
As always, lots of props and visuals for more complete understanding and ending with a meditation for integration. Information gleaned from this encounter will be used to create a workshop for mothers and daughters to grow and nourishwomenof the future. Time: 1 - 5 PM; cost $50.00
Please call or email to express your interest and a date can be established.
WELCOME TO THE TRIBE: MOTHER/DAUGHTER
Learn the female body parts and understand the rhythm of the menstrual cycle and what it teaches us so that we, as women, can better understand ourselves and our world. Time: 1-5 PM, cost $30 each.
SHINRIN-YOKU: THE JAPANESE ART OF FOREST BATHING
Forest Bathing is a short, leisurely visit to a forest to experience natural aromatherapy. This forest bathing trip will allow you to connect with yourself and nature through breath. The inhalation of volatile substances emitted from trees contain essential elements that enhance our sense of well being, and are antimicrobial as well.Scientists have found that walking in forests increases the level of serum adiponectin, a hormone that affects the heart and metabolism, and reduces anxiety, depression, anger, fatigue and emotional confusion! I will be your guide on this walk, beginning with a short introduction and connection to the breath, and continue with an exploration of the poetry and healing property of trees. 1 1/2 hours; scheduled throughout the year, at Northlake Nature Center. Next one scheduled March 8, 2014.

Embracing our Body Intelligences
date tba
2 day class, 10 AM - 5 PM Offers 12 CEU’s
MAX. 8, MIN. 6 Cost $300
Did you know that we can call on more than one intelligence to heal? These Body Parts: Visceral Anatomy classes are designed to explore these intelligences and address specific massage techniques for the organs associated with each intelligence.. They will be taught in a series, but can be taken out of sequence. Each class will focus on two organs, paired by meridians.
LUNGS/LARGE INTESTINE Metal, Emotional Intelligence
STOMACH/SPLEEN-PANCREAS Earth, Practical/Stability Intelligence
GALLBLADDER/LIVER Wood Thinking/Logical Intelligence
BLADDER/KIDNEY Water Genetic Intelligence
HEART CONTROLLER/TRIPLE BURNER Fire Spirit/Joy Intelligence
HEART/SMALL INTESTINE Fire Spiritual/Joy Intelligence
The first class was held in October, 2011,and focused on our Emotional Intelligence: the lungs and large intestine and laid the groundwork for the emotional impact on working on the belly.
The second in the series was held in April, 2012, and focused on our EARTH Intelligence that enables us to be present in the moment and gives us the feeling of safety and comfort: Stomach, Spleen/Pancreas and the 5 sphincters of the digestive tract.
The third class emcompassed our WOOD intelligence, the intelligence we are all very familiar with: thinking. The organs included are the liver and gallbladder, with specific techniques for releasing tensions that might be held there so they can do the important work that our bodies require!
These classes are designed to give enough information to be able to transfer what is seen in anatomy books to what is actually being felt on a client's abdomen, as well as learn techniques to apply to the organs for tensional release.
