"The female pelvis is a powerhouse of energy transformation - the very throne of creation through which energy patterns course and flow." Rosita Arvigo
Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) may be used during pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum. The correct position and free movement of the uterus is very important for a healthy pregnancy and easier birth. However, ATMAT is not performed during the FIRST trimester. There is minimal risk that the embryo MAY dislodge from the uterine wall if the connection is tenuous. During the first trimester, ATMAT may be performed very gently above the umbilicus, with "warm hands" used below to send love, prayers and thoughts of strengthening the uterus and welcoming the new baby into the world.
Ideally, the woman should be seen 3 months prior to conception to insure proper position of the uterus and open any restrictions or blockages that may be present in the
abdominal cavity.
ATMAT during pregnancy helps to encourage proper position of the uterus, sufficient blood supply to provide nutrients and oxygen to the uterus/baby and to remove toxins, insure lymph drainage, better nerve transmission and relief from digestive upsets and various pains a woman may feel from the growing uterus/baby. Midwives in Belize have been using variations of this modality through generations.
You can visit a local practitioner if you would like to receive a pregnancy treatment and learn ATMAT pregnancy self-care, or if you have learned ATMAT self care prior to pregnancy, see your practitioner to get the modified pregnancy version.
